Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) has formalised a strategic collaboration with the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) to advance sustainable and responsible trade practices, as global markets place increasing emphasis on environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards.
The partnership, sealed through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), aims to strengthen awareness, improve information sharing and support Malaysian exporters in adapting to evolving global sustainability requirements.
The move comes as international trade becomes more closely tied to ESG compliance, with stricter expectations across supply chains potentially affecting market access for exporters that fail to meet global benchmarks.
MATRADE said the collaboration would leverage both organisations’ networks and expertise to enhance industry readiness, while reinforcing Malaysia’s positioning as a responsible trading nation in key export markets.
Abu Bakar Yusof, Chief Executive Officer MATRADE said, the partnership reflects the agency’s continued push to align Malaysian exporters with global sustainability trends.
“This strategic partnership marks an important step in reinforcing MATRADE’s commitment to sustainable and responsible trade. As global markets place greater emphasis on ESG considerations, it is essential that we continue to enhance awareness and ensure that Malaysian exporters remain aligned with evolving international expectations,” he said.
RBA, one of the world’s largest coalitions focused on responsible business conduct, brings together more than 600 companies across sectors such as electronics, automotive and retail. The collaboration is expected to deepen Malaysia’s engagement with global stakeholders while encouraging wider adoption of responsible practices across supply chains.
