The coalition party has firmly denied protecting any leaders or members found guilty of abusing power, reiterating its commitment to integrity and accountability within its ranks.
Communications chief of Pakatan Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who also leads the party, has issued a clear warning that no individual including ministers, would be shielded if implicated in misconduct.
Speaking at the party’s Federal Territories division annual general meeting, Fahmi stressed that positions of power must not be exploited for personal gain, cautioning members against actions that could tarnish the party’s image.
He reminded party members of their past struggle against abuse of power, noting that it would be contradictory to now allow similar practices to take root internally.
Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister, further cautioned leaders against becoming complacent, adding that unexplained changes in lifestyle could raise public suspicion and erode trust.
At the same time, he called for unity within the party, urging members to manage differing views constructively through proper channels, especially as the country navigates economic challenges and a global energy crisis.
In a separate development, Fahmi said the defamation trial involving three individuals over allegations that he misused a mosque for political campaigning will begin next week at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
