United States President Donald Trump has announced a two-week suspension of military action against Iran.
In a statement posted on White House X platform, Trump said the decision followed discussions with Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir, who urged a pause in hostilities to allow room for diplomacy.
“I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks. This will be a double-sided ceasefire,” Trump said.
He noted that US military objectives had largely been achieved, and the temporary ceasefire would provide a window for both sides to finalise a broader and more permanent agreement.
According to Trump, Washington has received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which he described as a “workable basis” for negotiations, adding that most major points of contention between the two sides had already been resolved.
Meanwhile, CNN, citing a White House official, reported that Israel is also part of a two-week ceasefire with Iran and has agreed to suspend its bombing campaign as talks continue
