The government has granted micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) an additional 12-month transition period for e-invoicing implementation, in a move aimed at easing compliance pressures amid rising operating costs.
Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anwar Ibrahim said businesses with annual sales between RM1 million and RM5 million will now have until Dec 31, 2027 to comply with the e-invoicing requirement. During the extended transition period, affected companies will be allowed to issue consolidated e-invoices without facing penalties.
The extension comes as part of a broader set of measures to support MSMEs navigating cost pressures and supply chain disruptions linked to the ongoing global energy crisis.
Among the additional measures announced is a RM5 billion guarantee allocation under Syarikat Jaminan Pembiayaan Perniagaan (SJPP), with coverage for key sectors such as construction, logistics and tourism increased to 80%, alongside a longer financing tenure of up to 10 years.
The government is also considering tax and import duty relief, including exemptions on the re-importation of Malaysian-made goods affected by export disruptions, as well as working with financial institutions to facilitate loan restructuring for impacted businesses.
Anwar said the measures reflect a targeted and adaptive approach to support businesses, as Malaysia continues to navigate a challenging global environment marked by elevated energy costs and economic uncertainty.
