Bursa Malaysia traded mostly higher at the midday close, with key indices advancing in tandem as buying interest in selected heavyweight and financial counters supported broader market sentiment.
The FBM KLCI rose 9.98 points or 0.59% to 1,712.28, after trading between 1,700.54 and 1,716.64. The FBM70 index gained 76.84 points or 0.43% to 17,765.42, while the FBMEMAS index added 73.02 points or 0.58% to 12,616.37. The FBM Shariah Index inched up 21.98 points or 0.18% to 12,445.65, and the FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia Index rose 6.33 points or 0.63% to 1,018.69.
Market breadth was supported by gains in financial and selected industrial heavyweights, with MPI, Hong Leong Financial Group and Hong Leong Bank among the top gainers. MPI climbed RM1.50, while Hong Leong Financial Group and Hong Leong Bank rose RM0.42 and RM0.26 respectively.
Trading activity was dominated by VS, which was among the most active counters with over 1,054,975 lots traded and a gain of RM0.02 to RM0.21. AirAsia X also saw strong interest, rising RM0.09 to RM1.39 on active volume. Debutant MTT Shipping slips by 2.91%, noting the price of RM1.00.
On the decliners’ list, PChem led losses among index-linked stocks, down RM0.26 to RM5.05, while Petronas Gas and F&N also slipped in thin trading.
