Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad has announced changes in its boardroom leadership, following the retirement of a seasoned corporate figure and the appointment of a decorated accounting and ESG expert.
Effective May 7, 2026, Datuk Bazlan Osman has retired from his position as an Independent Non-Executive Director. On the same day, the bank welcomed Dr. Nurmazilah binti Dato’ Mahzan to the board as his successor in an Independent Non-Executive capacity.
The departure of Datuk Bazlan Osman, 62, marks the end of a tenure characterised by deep corporate governance expertise. Datuk Bazlan continues to hold several high-profile roles in the Malaysian corporate landscape, including serving as the Senior Independent Director of Bursa Malaysia Berhad and Independent Director at Telekom Malaysia Berhad.
Stepping into the role is Dr. Nurmazilah Mahzan, 55, a powerhouse in the fields of auditing, risk management, and sustainability. Her appointment brings a modern, ESG-centric lens to the bank’s leadership at a time when Islamic finance is increasingly aligning with global sustainability standards.
Dr. Nurmazilah’s credentials span an impressive array of international professional bodies and academic achievements
Her career highlights include serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), where she oversaw regulatory and professional functions for the nation’s accounting fraternity. She also spent over a decade in academia at the University of Malaya, specialising in corporate governance and financial reporting.
With a background that includes audit and consultancy at Arthur Andersen and corporate accounting at KUB Malaysia Berhad, Dr. Nurmazilah is expected to contribute significantly to the bank’s Audit and Risk committees, ensuring that the institution remains resilient and transparent in a complex global market.
