US President Donald Trump said Iran is keen to reach an agreement with Washington and insisted any deal would be “good for the US and those that are with us”, even as military tensions escalated following fresh strikes between the two sides.
According to Reuters, Trump said Iran “really wants to make a deal”, coming hours after the US military confirmed it had struck Iranian military sites over the weekend and Iran’s Revolutionary Guards responded by targeting a US base.
The latest exchanges mark another escalation in the three-month-old conflict, despite ongoing negotiations aimed at ending hostilities and securing a broader ceasefire framework.
Trump, however, also complained that domestic political criticism was complicating diplomatic efforts, saying it was “MUCH tougher” to negotiate amid conflicting public commentary on whether the US should escalate or de-escalate.
“Just sit back and relax, it will all work out well in the end — It always does!” he wrote.
The comments follow Trump’s earlier statement on Friday that he would soon decide on a proposed extension of the Iran ceasefire deal, as diplomatic and military pressure continue to unfold in parallel.
