Former MACC Chief To File Suit Against Businessman Albert Tei

Former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki will file a lawsuit against businessman Albert Tei over allegations linking him to threats against the latter.

Azam said he has instructed his lawyers to issue a legal notice as soon as possible.

“My lawyers will serve the notice as soon as possible,” he said.

Earlier, Azam spent nearly two hours at Bukit Aman, where he provided a statement to police investigating the allegations.

He denied ever meeting or having any dealings with Tei and said he had submitted evidence showing there was no direct contact between them.

The investigation stems from a police report lodged by Tei on May 13, alleging he was threatened through his lawyer.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M Kumar previously said police had recorded statements from Tei and the individual accused of conveying the threat to assist in investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

Tei had previously alleged that Azam threatened, obstructed and victimised him when he attempted to expose alleged corruption involving several high-profile politicians in Sabah last year.

Azam has maintained his innocence and pledged full cooperation with police in the investigation.
