Carlsberg Malaysia Earns MSCI’s Highest ESG Rating, Joins Global Top Tier

Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd has been upgraded to the highest possible AAA rating by MSCI ESG Ratings, reflecting sustained improvements in its environmental, social and governance performance and placing the brewer among the top performers in managing ESG-related risks and opportunities.

The upgrade from AA to AAA was awarded in March 2026 and makes Carlsberg Malaysia the only brewer in the country to hold the top MSCI ESG rating. The company is also classified as a Leader within the global beverages industry.

According to the company, its environmental score improved to 8.0 from 7.5 previously, supported by stronger performance in packaging materials and waste management as well as continued improvements in carbon footprint management through brewery transformation initiatives.

The social pillar recorded the most significant improvement, rising to 6.3 from 3.8 a year earlier, driven by higher scores in product safety and quality and workplace health and safety.

Separately, Carlsberg Malaysia maintained a four-star ESG rating under the FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia Index in 2025. The company was among 26 firms in the Consumer Products and Services sector to achieve the rating, supported by strong governance and social practices, including full scores for corporate governance and human rights and community indicators.

The brewer said the results were underpinned by strengthened governance, responsible sourcing and human rights practices, including the adoption of ISO 37001:2025 anti-bribery management standards.

Carlsberg Malaysia also published its FY25 Integrated Annual Report in March, marking its first year of alignment with Malaysia’s National Sustainability Reporting Framework and the International Sustainability Standards Board standards, including IFRS S1 and IFRS S2. The move is aimed at improving the consistency and reliability of its sustainability and climate-related disclosures.
