Set in the village of San Cassiano in Alta Badia, among the mountain peaks of the UNESCO-protected Dolomites, Aman Rosa Alpina begins its first complete summer season, as it approaches its one-year anniversary this July. The Dolomites’ diverse terrain, with its sheer limestone towers, wildflower meadows, peaceful valleys and ancient pathways, offer some of Europe’s finest conditions for outdoor exploration. Drawing on the knowledge of the Pizzinini family, who have been at the helm of the hotel since 1939, and their long-standing relationships with the region’s most experienced guides, the resort offers an iconic base from which to explore the surrounding mountain landscape and prepare for new challenges with the expertise of the Aman Rosa Alpina team.
Some of the world’s best road racing trails are available from the resort’s doorstep, making Aman Rosa Alpina the perfect location for spectators and participants alike. Additionally, Aman Rosa Alpina offers mountain biking and e-biking tours suited to all abilities throughout most of the year, with each trail affording breathtaking views of waterfalls and flower-filled meadows. The region’s numerous famed road biking climbs include Passo di Pordoi, the Marmolada, Passo Gardena and Passo di Campolongo. Aman Rosa Alpina’s Experience Team can assist with everything from logistics to sports massages and stretching sessions to prepare for a day out on these famous routes.
The season opens with the Sellaronda Bike Day at the beginning of June: a closed-road event encircling the Sella Massif, free of motor vehicles, where the only sounds are birdsong and the spin of wheels across passes that have shaped the Giro d’Italia (Tour of Italy). Participation in the Sella Ronda Bike Day is the ideal event for families with children, and is free of charge and requires no registration.
In June, the Dolomiti Bike Day again sees the roads cleared for cyclists who traverse the Campolongo, Falzarego and Valparola passes. On the first Sunday of July, the area plays host to the annual Maratona dles Dolomites race, covering seven mountain passes in a single day and drawing amateur cyclists from around the world each year. Both of these events are now sold out for participants, however, spectators can line the roads to cheer on participants with no prior registration.
This landscape also provides off-road biking trails and steep descents through the Bike Beats Alta Badia trail network which extends 2,000 metres in the heart of the Movimënt area. Set across the plateau between Corvara, La Villa and San Cassiano, five trails range from flowing and accessible to technically demanding. Northshore sections, jumps and rollers of varying difficulty are woven between the slopes and pine forests of the Alta Badia, offering a terrain that challenges riders of every level. The mid-June Hero Südtirol Dolomites, widely regarded as the world’s most spectacular mountain biking marathon for professionals, provides the sport’s defining event.
For those who wish to explore these trails by foot, Aman Rosa Alpina invites adventurous guests to take on one of the region’s most exhilarating challenges, The 4 Peaks Alta Badia. Available from the end of June to September, Aman Rosa Alpina has designed an exclusive four-night package, structured to support both preparation and recovery, which will be led by a private mountain guide. Guests arrive to a welcome drink and a briefing with their private Alpine guide, followed by an à la carte dinner at The Grill before the main summit push on the next day. The first full day is devoted to a guided practice ascent, with a 60-minute Sport Recovery treatment at the Aman Spa on return. The next day, participating guests will conquer four iconic summits, Sas dla Crusc, Piza dales Diesc, Lavarela and Conturines, ascending 2,000 metres across marked trails, via ferrata routes and exposed ridgelines. Those who master them in one single day will be awarded the sought-after title of the “Alta Badia Mountaineer.”
The Dolomites are equally renowned as one of the world’s premier climbing destinations. Some of the first via ferrata routes, dating back to World War I can be found here and draw climbing enthusiasts from far and wide. These protected pathways of steel cables, iron rungs, and ladders woven into the cliffsides, follow the mountains’ natural contours and range from gentle introductory climbs to thrilling high alpine traverses. For the adventurous, theresort’s Dolomites Escape – Via Ferrata experience is an exhilarating ascent across rugged rock faces, combining adrenaline, skill and breathtaking views. To begin the day at a slower pace, a guided sunrise hike departs before dawn, following well-marked paths through alpine meadows and pine forests as the first light casts its golden glow across the peaks.
The resort’s hand-picked guides tailor hikes to age and ability, from leisurely strolls through the sun-drenched Armentarola and Stores Meadows to full-day immersions in the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Natural Park. Signature experiences include the Dolomites Escape: Rifugio Retreat which blends scenic trails on a guided hike with an authentic lunch at a traditional rifugio (mountain hut). The Pizzinini family’s private mountain cabin, Prè Ístì, can also provide the setting for an exclusive barbecue high above the valley, reached by hiking through scenic trails, cable car or private transfer. Away from the crowds, surrounded by the pristine Dolomite landscape, the Aman Rosa Alpina team prepares grilled specialties to enjoy whilst overlooking the mountain views.
After a day spent exploring, guests can unwind in the serene haven of the Aman Spa, featuring seven treatment rooms, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a cold plunge pool, a bio sauna, a Finnish sauna, and a steam room. The spa also offers a yoga studio, a state-of-the-art gym and an outdoor heated swimming pool.
