Ghana produced a resilient defensive performance to hold England to a 0-0 draw at the FIFA World Cup 2026, leaving both teams level on four points at the top of Group L.
England dominated possession for long periods at Boston Stadium but struggled to break down a well-organised Ghana side that defended with discipline and composure.
The Three Lions created few clear openings in the first half, with Declan Rice coming closest when his looping header drifted over the crossbar.
After the interval, England increased the pressure. Elliot Anderson saw a close-range header blocked before Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane both tested goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who produced a series of important saves to keep Ghana level.
Ghana nearly snatched victory in the closing stages when Abdul Fatawu raced through on goal, only for Ezri Konsa to recover and make a crucial intervention. Fatawu’s follow-up effort was then inadvertently blocked on the line by team-mate Antoine Semenyo.
England’s best opportunity arrived in the 87th minute when Reece James delivered a cross for Nico O’Reilly, whose header struck the crossbar. The rebound fell to Kane, but the England captain fired over from close range.
The result leaves England and Ghana on four points from two matches, ahead of Croatia on three points and Panama on zero. A draw in their final group fixtures against Panama and Croatia respectively would be enough to send both sides into the Round of 32.
Jude Bellingham was named the Superior Player of the Match.
The stalemate also continued England’s recent World Cup trend, with the team now having drawn one group-stage match 0-0 in four of the last five tournaments.
