China’s Coast Guard has continued its routine law enforcement patrols in waters east of Taiwan, with a new vessel formation taking over operations as part of what Beijing described as regular maritime enforcement activities.
CCG spokesperson Jiang Lue said on Saturday that the Xiushan ship formation had replaced the Daishan formation to continue patrols in accordance with Chinese law in waters under Beijing’s jurisdiction east of Taiwan.
According to Jiang, the Daishan-led formation had been conducting patrol and inspection operations in the area since June, alongside fishery protection and maritime rescue missions.
The spokesperson said the operations were aimed at ensuring the normal conduct of navigation and fishing activities while safeguarding the rights, interests, lives and property of Chinese fishermen, including those from Taiwan.
“The China Coast Guard will continue to strengthen law enforcement patrols in waters under China’s jurisdiction and resolutely safeguard national territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests,” Jiang said.
