Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today celebrated his 101st birthday, marking another milestone in a political career that has spanned more than eight decades.
Born on July 10, 1925, in Alor Setar, Kedah, Dr Mahathir remains Malaysia’s longest-serving prime minister, having led the country for 22 years from 1981 to 2003 before returning to office from 2018 to 2020.
Widely regarded as one of Malaysia’s most influential political figures, Dr Mahathir spearheaded major industrialisation efforts during his first tenure, including the development of national projects such as the North-South Expressway, the Petronas Twin Towers, the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and the Multimedia Super Corridor.
Despite retiring from frontline politics, Dr Mahathir has remained active in public life, frequently sharing his views on national issues through public appearances and social media.
