Barisan Nasional (BN) is on course to retain control of the Johor state government with a commanding majority, according to early unofficial results.
Based on preliminary vote tallies, BN is projected to win up to 48 of the 56 seats in the Johor State Legislative Assembly, comfortably surpassing the simple majority required to form the state government.
Pakatan Harapan (PH) is currently expected to secure eight seats, with the Democratic Action Party (DAP) accounting for six of those constituencies.
Once the projections are confirmed by the Election Commission (EC), BN would further consolidate its dominance in Johor, traditionally regarded as one of the coalition’s political strongholds.
The projected outcome comes after steady voter turnout throughout polling day, with the EC reporting encouraging participation despite intermittent rain.
A decisive BN victory would provide the coalition with a renewed mandate to govern the southern state and strengthen its political position ahead of future national electoral contests.
Official results are expected to be announced by the Election Commission later tonight as vote counting continues across all constituencies.
