MyDIGITAL And Petrosains Bring AI, STEM Education To Indigenous Communities

More than 200 indigenous students in Sarawak have taken part in a new digital literacy and STEM education programme aimed at improving access to artificial intelligence (AI) awareness and technology skills under Malaysia’s digital inclusion agenda.

MyDIGITAL Corporation, through its Rakyat Digital initiative, partnered with Petrosains, The Discovery Centre, launched the outreach programme during the Karnival Pendidikan Murid Peribumi Penan Peringkat Negeri Sarawak held in Miri on 1 July. The programme involved students from indigenous communities including the Penan, Iban, Kayan, Kenyah and Lun Bawang groups.

The initiative introduced students to free digital learning resources through the Rakyat Digital platform, while Petrosains provided hands-on STEM activities and science demonstrations designed to encourage curiosity and technology-driven learning.

MyDIGITAL Corporation Chief Executive Officer Adrian Marcellus said, “Our collaboration with Petrosains represents a critical milestone in making digital and AI literacy universally accessible. By expanding our reach to the Orang Asli and indigenous segments, we are directly building the foundation for an inclusive digital ecosystem. We are ensuring that no community is left behind in Malaysia’s digital transition.”

Petrosains Chief Executive Officer Ezarisma Azni Mohamad said, “Inclusivity begins with opportunity. For many Orang Asli and indigenous communities in Sarawak, access to STEM and digital learning can be a powerful catalyst for unlocking potential and expanding future possibilities.”

The collaboration will be expanded nationwide through outreach programmes in states including Kelantan, Pahang and Johor, with both organisations working alongside state education departments to deliver digital literacy and STEM learning opportunities for indigenous schools.

The programme supports the Malaysia Digital 2030 (MD2030) Action Plan, which aims to build an inclusive AI-powered nation by ensuring wider access to digital skills and technology education.
