Kidnappers In RM7 Million Ransom Case Apprehended

Police have arrested six individuals after rescuing a kidnapping victim in a special operation carried out less than 48 hours after the case was reported.

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) said the operation, conducted by the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) with the cooperation of Bukit Aman Special Branch and Selangor CID, led to the victim’s rescue at a residential unit in i-City, Shah Alam, at about 1 am today.

The case came to light after police received a report at 1:30 am on July 17 from a 46-year-old local woman, who informed police that her husband had been kidnapped and that the suspects had demanded RM7 million in ransom for his release.

Six individuals, comprising five local men and one local woman aged between 30 and 46, were arrested during the operation to assist investigations.

Police also seized various types of drugs, several mobile phones and vehicles believed to have been used in the crime.

The case is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961 for kidnapping for ransom, which carries a jail term of between 30 and 40 years and whipping upon conviction. Investigations under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 are also being conducted against the suspects.

The suspects have been remanded for 10 days under Section 12 of the Kidnapping Act 1961, while police continue investigations to identify possible accomplices, the motive behind the incident and any related criminal network.
