Kimpton Checks Into Indonesia With Its First Bali Hotel

Kimpton Hotels & Resorts is set to make its Indonesia debut with the opening of Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud later this year, bringing the luxury lifestyle brand to one of Bali’s most established cultural destinations.

Located on Jalan Bisma in Ubud, the 101-room property will place guests within walking distance of landmarks including the Ubud Art Market, Ubud Palace and the Water Palace.

The hotel’s design will reflect its Ubud setting, with architecture by Denton Corker Marshall shaped around the area’s hillside and riverside landscape. The property draws from Balinese ceremonial processions, with spaces designed around movement and connection. Accommodation will include essential rooms, pool suites and private pool villas.

Food and beverage will be a major part of the hotel’s identity, with five dining concepts planned across the property. Leading the culinary offering is Imamura Ubud, an omakase restaurant by Michelin-starred chef Hirofumi Imamura. The hotel will also introduce Shaku by Imamura, a Japanese izakaya concept.

Beyond dining, the property will include wellness facilities designed around movement and recovery. These will include a two-storey fitness studio, contrast therapy facilities and Sakshi Spa, which incorporates elements of Balinese healing traditions.

The opening will also introduce Kimpton’s signature guest programmes to Indonesia, including Kimpton Kickstart, a daily morning coffee and pastry offering, and Kimpton Social, an evening gathering designed to encourage interaction among guests.

Leading the launch is Austin Jones, who brings experience from working across multiple Kimpton properties. He will oversee the brand’s first Indonesian opening as general manager.

Founded in San Francisco in 1981, Kimpton has expanded its presence across Asia with hotels in Taipei, Bangkok, Samui, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. The Bali opening continues that regional growth while adding Indonesia to the brand’s expanding portfolio.
