Malaysians Confirmed Involved In South Korea Incident Leaving One Dead, Wisma Putra

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Embassy of Malaysia in Seoul, has confirmed on reports that a Malaysian citizen passed away following an incident in the Republic of Korea on 26 July 2026.

Wisma Putra said it was informed that the case is currently under investigation by the authorities of the Republic of Korea however, in respect of the ongoing investigation and the privacy of the family, personal details of the deceased or the circumstances of the incident will not be disclosed at this stage

The Embassy of Malaysia in Seoul has been in close contact with the next-of-kin of the deceased and the relevant local authorities. The Embassy is extending the necessary consular assistance to the family, including facilitating documentation, funeral arrangements and the repatriation of the remains to Malaysia.

The Ministry has also been informed that other Malaysian nationals are involved in the ongoing investigation. The Embassy will continue to seek verified information from the relevant authorities and will continue to extend the appropriate consular assistance to Malaysians involved, in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Republic of Korea and applicable international obligations.
