The Cabinet will decide on Wednesday whether to make public the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.
Anwar said the matter would be discussed during the weekly Cabinet meeting before a final decision is made on releasing the report, which examines allegations involving the management and sale of TH’s strategic assets.
“There has been some debate over Tabung Haji. I do not wish to comment at length, but hopefully at Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting we can reach a decision. There is a report, and the public should be allowed to read it,” he said during the Semarak Kenegaraan programme at Syed Sirajuddin Camp in Tampin.
The Prime Minister said any wrongdoing should be addressed through the country’s legal system, stressing that investigations, prosecutions and court decisions must remain independent.
“If nothing is wrong, stand up for it. If something is wrong, prosecute. If found guilty and sentenced to prison, then serve the sentence. It has nothing to do with me. Our system is clear; the investigating authorities, prosecutions by the Attorney General, and judgments by the courts carry out investigations. That is not the Prime Minister’s job,” he said.
Anwar added that his responsibility as Prime Minister was to uphold integrity, follow constitutional procedures and ensure decisions were made according to established legal processes.
Last Thursday, Anwar said the government was prepared to release the final RCI report soon to allow the public to understand the findings of the inquiry. He said he would first consult the Chief Secretary to the Government on whether the report required Cabinet consideration before its release.
