MBSB Commits To RM400 Million Islamic Financing Arrangement For 5G Rollout

MBSB Bank Berhad has entered into a RM400 million Shariah-compliant Structured Receivable Purchase Facility with Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. to support the deployment of equipment and services for U Mobile’s 5G Radio Access Network (RAN).

The financing arrangement enables Huawei Malaysia to monetise its receivables, improving working capital efficiency while facilitating the continued rollout of U Mobile’s 5G network across the country.

The transaction marks Huawei Malaysia’s first utilisation of an Islamic structured receivables purchase financing solution and is among the largest structured trade and receivables financing transactions undertaken by MBSB Bank to date.

MBSB Group Chief Executive Officer Rafe Haneef said the partnership reflects the growing role of financial institutions in supporting the country’s digital transformation agenda.

“As Malaysia accelerates its digital transformation, financing must evolve alongside technology. We are pleased to partner Huawei Malaysia on this milestone transaction. Beyond financing, it reflects MBSB’s commitment to enabling investments that strengthen national infrastructure, support economic growth and position Malaysia for the future,” he said.

The facility is structured under Shariah principles, highlighting the increasing role of Islamic finance in funding strategic infrastructure and technology projects. It also demonstrates how structured receivables financing can provide multinational corporations with improved liquidity while supporting large-scale capital deployments.
