Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed the Human Resources Ministry (MOHR) to immediately process the first 15,000 foreign worker applications to ease labour shortages in key sectors.
Communications Minister and government spokesperson Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the move was intended to meet urgent workforce demand and support economic activity.
“This is to fulfil the labour needs of the sectors concerned and, in turn, support economic activity in the country,” he said after the Cabinet meeting on Aug 5.
The directive follows the transfer of full responsibility for the One-Stop Centre for Foreign Worker Management to MOHR.
Previously, MOHR Minister Datuk Seri R Ramanan said the move would strengthen governance in foreign worker recruitment while allowing industry labour needs to be handled more efficiently and systematically.
