BN To Hold Briefing On Tabung Haji RCI Ahead Of Special Parliament Sitting

Barisan Nasional (BN) will hold a special briefing on the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report into Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) next Monday, ahead of a special Dewan Rakyat sitting to debate its findings on Aug 11.

The briefing will be held at 5pm with BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at Dewan Tun Dr Ismail, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.

BN executive secretary Datuk Mohamad Sahfri Ab Aziz said invitations had been circulated to BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, vice-chairmen Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran, Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup and Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan, as well as BN senators and MPs.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim previously said the special sitting would allow lawmakers to examine the RCI’s findings and consider the direction of reforms involving the institution overseeing savings and pilgrimage affairs for Malaysian Muslims.

The sitting follows the Cabinet’s decision to declassify and make the RCI report public, while further investigations by enforcement agencies will continue based on its findings.

The report found TH’s financial position had reached a critical state in 2017, with accumulated losses rising to RM10 billion and prompting the government to implement an urgent recovery plan.
