Proceedings involving former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s corruption and money laundering case were postponed on Thursday after he was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for medical treatment.
The Sessions Court was scheduled to hear the case, including the formal reading of charges against the former premier. However, the proceedings were adjourned after the court was informed that Ismail Sabri was unable to attend as he had been taken to IJN due to health issues.
The court subsequently fixed Aug 27 as the new date for the proceedings.
Counsel representing Ismail Sabri informed the court of his client’s medical condition, while the prosecution did not object to the adjournment in light of the circumstances.
The case relates to multiple charges of alleged corruption and money laundering linked to investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
The postponement means the court process, including the reading of charges and any plea, will now take place when the case resumes later this month, subject to Ismail Sabri’s medical condition.
