Fiji’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Sakiasi Raisevu Ditoka will undertake a working visit to Malaysia from Aug 9 to 12, 2026. The visit marks Ditoka’s first working visit to Malaysia since assuming office on Jan 19, 2026.
During the four-day visit, Ditoka is scheduled to meet with Foreign Affairs Minister Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan to discuss efforts to deepen Malaysia-Fiji cooperation across several areas, including trade and investment, capacity building, forestry, renewable energy and cultural cooperation.
The meeting will also provide an opportunity for both ministers to exchange views on regional and international developments and explore ways to strengthen Malaysia’s cooperation with Pacific Island countries.
Ditoka is also scheduled to meet Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani to explore new opportunities for economic cooperation that could deliver mutual benefits to both countries.
As part of the visit, Ditoka is scheduled to officiate the reopening of the High Commission of the Republic of Fiji in Kuala Lumpur and the establishment of the Malaysia-Fiji Business Council.
The establishment of the business council is expected to provide a platform for closer engagement between the private sectors of both countries and support the identification of new commercial opportunities.
Malaysia and Fiji recorded RM880.01 million in total bilateral trade in 2025, equivalent to US$206.2 million.
Malaysia’s exports to Fiji accounted for the bulk of bilateral trade at RM867.92 million, or US$203.41 million, while imports from Fiji stood at RM12.09 million, equivalent to US$2.80 million.
The trade figures highlight the significant imbalance in bilateral trade, with Malaysia accounting for the overwhelming majority of exports between the two countries.
Against this backdrop, the planned discussions on trade and investment are expected to provide an avenue for both sides to identify opportunities to broaden and diversify bilateral economic ties.
Beyond trade, the visit’s agenda covers areas such as renewable energy, forestry and capacity building, reflecting the broader scope of Malaysia-Fiji cooperation.
The engagement with Malaysian officials is also expected to reinforce ties between Malaysia and Fiji while providing opportunities to expand cooperation with the wider Pacific Island region.
