Sarawak is expected to experience hot and drier conditions until 14 August, with MetMalaysia warning that limited rainfall and persistent winds could also increase the risk of transboundary haze.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department said the hot, relatively dry weather was expected across much of Borneo, including Sarawak, based on the latest weather forecast models.
Southerly winds and a continued high number of hotspots in neighbouring countries could carry smoke into Sarawak, potentially reducing visibility, particularly in southern parts of the state.
The department issued the significant weather forecast at 11 am today.
MetMalaysia advised the public to monitor its official weather updates and use the myCuaca application for the latest information.
The warning comes as several parts of Sarawak have already recorded unhealthy air quality levels amid ongoing transboundary haze.
