The Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) has detained a Pakistani man believed to be involved in a viral video showing a vehicle bearing the department’s logo and directional lights being used by a foreign national.
JIM said the special operation was conducted on Aug 9 at 4.30pm at PV3 Platinum Hill Condominium, Setapak and Jalan Kuching, Kuala Lumpur, following information from a video that had gone viral on social media.
The operation, conducted by officers from the Intelligence and Special Operations Division at the Immigration headquarters in Putrajaya, resulted in the arrest of a Pakistani man believed to be the individual featured in the video.
Further checks at the premises also led to the arrest of an Indonesian woman who was found to have overstayed in Malaysia. JIM also discovered two Indonesian passports believed to belong to other individuals in the possession of the Pakistani man.
The Pakistani man is being investigated for alleged offences under Section 12(1)(f) of the Passports Act 1966 and the Immigration Act 1959/63, while the Indonesian woman was detained under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Following the arrests, JIM traced a Toyota Hilux bearing registration number VLH8773 believed to have been used in the viral video. The vehicle was found at a car wash on Jalan Kuching, where officers also detained its actual owner, a Pakistani national.
The operation at the car wash also resulted in the arrest of four Bangladeshi men, three Pakistani men and one Indian man who were working at the premises.
The Pakistani vehicle owner was detained for allegedly committing an offence under Section 55B of the Immigration Act 1959/63, while the four Bangladeshi men, three Pakistani men and one Indian man were detained for alleged offences under Section 6(1)(c) of the same Act.
JIM said preliminary investigations found that the viral video was recorded in April 2025 but was only uploaded as a WhatsApp status by the wife of the individual involved on Aug 7, 2026. The wife was in Indonesia when the video was uploaded.
Preliminary investigations also found that the vehicle owner admitted to installing the JIM logo and directional lights for personal use without any official purpose.
He claimed that he was unaware that the installation constituted an offence under Malaysian law and said the JIM logo and directional lights had been removed before the video went viral.
All those detained, along with the vehicle featured in the viral video, were brought to the Immigration Department office for further investigation and action.
JIM Director-General Dato’ Zakaria Shaaban said the department would not compromise on any misuse of its logo or identity that could confuse the public or undermine its image and integrity.
The department will continue taking firm action against activities that violate Malaysian laws to safeguard the country’s stability and prosperity.
