Selangor Targets Nine Million Tourists For Visit Selangor 2026

Selangor is targeting nine million tourists in conjunction with Visit Selangor Year 2026, building on the state’s tourism performance last year as it seeks to strengthen its position as a regional gateway, Bernama reported.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said Selangor recorded 36.4 million domestic visitors in 2025, up 5.5% from the previous year, while retaining its position as Malaysia’s most visited state for the fifth consecutive year since 2021.

“Selangor’s success today is the result of the unwavering commitment of the entire tourism ecosystem, working hand in hand to develop the industry.

“In the tourism sector, Selangor continues to make history by maintaining its position as the most visited state in Malaysia for five consecutive years since 2021,” he said in his speech at the Selangor State Tourism Awards 2026 ceremony recently.

To support the 2026 target, Tourism Selangor will intensify domestic and international promotions through campaigns including “Surprising Selangor”, “Selangor Kan Ada!” and “Liburan Sehat Ya di Selangor Aja!”.

Amirudin said Selangor’s tourism growth also supports its wider economic position, with the state recording a GDP of RM460.1 billion in 2025, equivalent to 26.5% of Malaysia’s economy.

Meanwhile, the Selangor State Tourism Awards 2026 introduced 26 categories to recognise tourism industry players, including the Best Integrated Resort & Theme Park Destination, International Tourism Partnership Award and Selangor Cruise Tourism Excellence Award.
