Wholesale And Retail Sales Rise 10.1% To RM168 Billion In July

Malaysia’s wholesale and retail trade sector continued to record strong growth in June 2026, with sales value rising 10.1% year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM168.5 billion, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

The growth was supported by all three major sub-sectors, led by motor vehicles, wholesale trade and retail trade.

Motor vehicle sales recorded the strongest growth, increasing 14.9% y-o-y, followed by wholesale trade at 12.4% and retail trade at 6.6%.

However, on a month-on-month (m-o-m) basis, total wholesale and retail trade sales value declined 1.6% in June.

In terms of volume, the wholesale and retail trade volume index increased 5.1% y-o-y to 170.6 points.

The expansion was again led by the motor vehicle segment, which recorded 13.2% growth. Wholesale trade and retail trade each registered growth of 4.2%.

On a m-o-m basis, the volume index increased 1.3%, supported by growth across all three segments.

Motor vehicle volume rose 5.5%, while wholesale trade increased 1.3% and retail trade edged up 0.4%.

The latest figures indicate that consumer and trade activity remained resilient in the middle of 2026, with the motor vehicle segment continuing to provide a significant boost to overall wholesale and retail performance.

Despite the monthly decline in sales value, the broad-based annual expansion across motor vehicles, wholesale and retail trade points to continued underlying strength in domestic trading activity.
