The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) will consider more than 100 proposals from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and target groups as it prepares input for Budget 2027.
Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the ministry would review the proposals and explore more effective and creative ways to support NGOs, particularly those that do not receive direct government funding.
“What they have proposed are also our proposals, with the hope that we can help. We will find ways because we understand the role they play in society,” she said after the KPWKM Budget 2027 engagement session at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) today.
Also present were KPWKM Deputy Minister Lim Hui Ying and Deputy Secretary-General (Policy) Mohd Daud Mohd Arif.
Nancy said caregiving would be one of the key areas addressed under Budget 2027, with the ministry looking to strengthen training programmes and develop a larger pool of professional caregivers, particularly for children.
“We want to strengthen and expand training so that those trained can become professional caregivers. Age is not the issue, what matters is knowing how to manage caregiving,” she said.
The ministry will also continue to address issues affecting women, senior citizens and the homeless, including efforts to strengthen legislation covering these groups.
“Some laws, including those related to senior citizens and the homeless, have yet to be passed. These will be among our future priorities,” she said.
On the proposed 30% quota for women’s participation in politics, Nancy said any decision would require the agreement of the top leadership of political parties.
“I have written to the government on the matter, but as it involves political parties, it is up to the party presidents. So far, there has been no decision, but I will raise it with the Prime Minister again,” she said.
More than 100 representatives from NGOs and target groups attended the engagement session, putting forward proposals on welfare initiatives involving senior citizens, women, children, persons with disabilities (PwD) and the caregiving sector.
