Southeast Asian organisations are facing financial losses of more than US$1 million from endpoint security incidents as gaps in device visibility leave businesses exposed to operational disruption, data breaches and revenue losses, according to new research by Tanium.
The State of Endpoint Management in ASEAN 2026 report, which surveyed 333 senior IT and security professionals across five Southeast Asian markets, found that 62% of organisations had experienced operational disruption linked to endpoint issues. These incidents resulted in downtime for 63% of affected organisations, data exposure for 41% and revenue losses for 31%.
The financial impact was significant, with 46% of respondents reporting losses exceeding US$100,000 while 17% said losses surpassed US$500,000. Some organisations recorded losses of more than US$1 million.
The research also highlighted a gap between organisations’ confidence in their cybersecurity posture and their actual visibility over connected devices.
While 59% of respondents said they were “very confident” in their ability to track devices, 43% acknowledged that more than 10% of their endpoints were unknown, unmanaged or non-compliant. Another 13% said more than 30% of their endpoints fell into this category.
Real-time threat detection remains another weakness, with only 29% of organisations able to detect a critical issue within minutes. For 55%, identifying a single threat indicator takes hours, potentially giving attackers more time to move through their systems.
Patching vulnerabilities is also proving difficult, with only 16% able to address critical vulnerabilities across the majority of their systems within 24 hours. Meanwhile, 60% continue to rely on partially automated patching processes.
The findings come as organisations across the region accelerate digitalisation and AI adoption, increasing the number of connected devices that need to be monitored and secured.
“Geopolitical conflict has gone digital, while AI is accelerating both innovation and attacks. The devices connecting it all are increasingly outside the visibility of the teams responsible for protecting them,” said Satyen Desai, RVP, ASEAN, Tanium.
“This research reaffirms what we hear from customers across the region. The misconception between confidence and actual control is real, it is widening, and it is expensive. Organisations that consolidate onto a unified platform, automate their response cycles, and build continuous compliance into their operations are already seeing the difference. The question for every leader in this region is whether they act before an incident forces their hand,” he added.
The research also found that 79% of respondents plan to invest in new security solutions within the next 12 months, suggesting that endpoint security is becoming a higher priority for businesses across the region.
