Bursa Malaysia’s top gainers and losers swung sharply throughout the week of Aug 10 to 14, with Nestlé (M) Bhd delivering one of the most dramatic reversals while plantation and selected heavyweight counters repeatedly appeared among the biggest decliners.
Here is how the market’s standout movers changed each day.
Monday, Aug 10: MPI leads gainers as Nestlé takes biggest hit
Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd (MPI) led Bursa Malaysia’s gainers, surging 72 sen to RM47.98, while Allianz Malaysia Bhd added 68 sen to RM22.20.
SkyeChip Bhd gained 23 sen to RM3.25, Kobay Technology Bhd advanced 22 sen to RM2.68 and Petronas Gas Bhd rose 20 sen to RM17.36.
At the other end, Nestlé (M) Bhd suffered the steepest decline, falling RM1.80 to RM99.60.
Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd dropped RM1.06 to RM21.84, while Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd shed 48 sen to RM14.52. Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd and Heineken Malaysia Bhd each lost 20 sen.
Market breadth was positive, with 707 gainers against 447 losers.
Tuesday, Aug 11: Nestlé bounces back as plantation stocks slide
Nestlé delivered a dramatic turnaround, jumping RM3 to RM102.60 to become the day’s biggest gainer after being Monday’s biggest loser.
Hong Leong Bank Bhd rose 42 sen to RM22.74, while SAM Engineering & Equipment (M) Bhd gained 25 sen to RM4.58. Heineken Malaysia added 20 sen and Greatech Technology Bhd climbed 13 sen.
Plantation counters bore the brunt of selling.
United Plantations Bhd was the biggest loser, falling 68 sen to RM33.20, followed by Batu Kawan Bhd, which dropped 52 sen to RM20.88.
Kuala Lumpur Kepong lost 32 sen to RM21.52, while Petronas Dagangan Bhd declined 34 sen to RM19.
The broader market was slightly negative, with 581 losers against 562 gainers.
Wednesday, Aug 12: United Plantations rebounds as MPI tumbles
The plantation sector staged a partial recovery, with United Plantations leading the gainers after rising 40 sen to RM33.60.
Nestlé continued its recovery, adding another 30 sen to RM102.90, while UMS Integration Ltd gained 28 sen to RM8.15.
Hengyuan Refining Co Bhd climbed 25 sen to RM1.95 and Tenaga Nasional Bhd added 24 sen to RM14.58.
MPI, however, suffered the biggest decline, falling 60 sen to RM47.50 after leading Monday’s gainers.
Hong Leong Industries Bhd dropped 34 sen to RM17.64, while Ideal Capital Bhd shed 17 sen.
Market breadth remained positive, with 661 gainers versus 512 losers.
Thursday, Aug 13: Nestlé tops again as Hong Leong Bank leads losers
Nestlé extended its winning run, rising another 60 sen to RM103.50 to become Bursa’s top gainer for the second time in three sessions.
MPI also rebounded, gaining 34 sen to RM47.84, while UMS Integration climbed 30 sen to RM8.45.
Kee Ming Group Bhd added 16 sen and Genting Plantations Bhd rose 13 sen.
However, selling pressure returned across the broader market, with Hong Leong Bank Bhd leading the decliners after falling 36 sen to RM22.34.
Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd slipped 32 sen, United Plantations dropped 30 sen and Malaysia Smelting Corp Bhd declined 21 sen.
Losers overwhelmed gainers 703 to 410.
Friday, Aug 14: Nestlé’s run ends as Hong Leong Industries rallies
Nestlé’s remarkable turnaround finally hit a pause, with the stock falling 80 sen to RM102.70 to become Friday’s biggest loser.
United Plantations followed, losing 42 sen to RM32.88, while MPI fell 34 sen to RM47.50.
Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd declined 28 sen to RM7.70 on relatively heavy trading volume of 14.69 million shares, while Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd shed 20 sen.
On the upside, Hong Leong Industries Bhd was the biggest gainer, climbing 32 sen to RM18.
Ranhill Utilities Bhd advanced 30 sen to RM2.66, Critical Holdings Bhd gained 19 sen and Ideal Capital Bhd added 17 sen.
Market breadth remained negative, with 619 losers against 538 gainers.
The week’s biggest swings
The week’s trading produced some striking reversals. Nestlé went from Bursa’s biggest loser on Monday to its biggest gainer on Tuesday, before leading the gainers again on Thursday and ending Friday as the biggest decliner.
United Plantations similarly swung between both sides of the leaderboard, gaining 40 sen on Wednesday after suffering a 68 sen loss on Tuesday.
MPI also experienced significant volatility, moving from a 72 sen gain on Monday to a 60 sen loss on Wednesday before recovering and then falling again on Friday.
