FBM KLCI Edges Down In Cautious Bursa Opening

Bursa Malaysia opened marginally lower on Friday, tracking weakness across most key indices, as investors remained cautious during early trade.

As at 9.21am, the benchmark FBMKLCI slipped 0.43 points, or 0.02%, to 1,736.28 after opening at 1,736.08. It traded between an early high of 1,737.20 and a low of 1,733.13.

Broader market sentiment was also weaker, with the FBM70 falling 85.22 points, or 0.47%, to 18,088.89, while the FBMSCAP declined 49.14 points, or 0.31%, to 15,997.75.

The FBMT100 eased 17.28 points, or 0.14%, to 12,638.94, while the FBMEMAS lost 18.92 points, or 0.15%, to 12,818.70. The FBMACE Index was down 18.85 points, or 0.35%, at 5,309.91.

Among sectoral indices, the Energy Index was the sole notable gainer, rising three points, or 0.39%, to 778.14. The Consumer Products and Services Index fell 1.22 points, or 0.25%, to 492.38, while the Construction Index slipped 0.41 points, or 0.13%, to 303.31.

The FBMAPMYR and FBMAPUSD indices gained 267.33 points and 182.54 points respectively, advancing 1.22% and 1.17%.

EIPOWER was the most actively traded counter, rising three sen to 77.5 sen with 112.28 million shares changing hands. It was followed by VS, which fell half a sen to 23 sen on 111.34 million shares, and GIIB, unchanged at 42 sen with 108.53 million shares traded.

Among the top gainers, United Plantations rose 30 sen to RM32.18, while Kuala Lumpur Kepong gained 22 sen to RM21.66. MPI was the biggest loser, falling RM2.02 to RM43.28, followed by BLD Plantation, which declined 48 sen to RM14.52.
