Bank Negara Reappoints Datuk Yogeeswaran As External Member Of MPC For Three Year Term

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has reappointed Datuk Yogeesvaran Kumaraguru as an external member of its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) for a three-year term, effective Sept 1, 2026.

Yogeesvaran has served as an external member of the MPC since Sept 1, 2024, bringing extensive experience in economic policy formulation, public administration, law and economics.

Prior to his current roles, he spent 27 years at the Economic Planning Unit (EPU), where he was involved in formulating several Malaysia Plans and served as a member of the National Economic Action Council Secretariat.

He subsequently joined the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities as Secretary General in 2017.

Yogeesvaran has also served as a consultant on economic matters to the World Bank and the United Nations.

He currently contributes his expertise in law and economics as a partner at a legal firm and as a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER).

Yogeesvaran holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Malaya. He also holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of London.

The MPC is responsible for formulating Malaysia’s monetary policy and determining the policy interest rate to maintain price stability while supporting sustainable economic growth.
