The Government will proceed with the 2026 National Day celebrations at Dataran Putrajaya on Aug 31 as scheduled, provided the current haze conditions remain unchanged, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said.
Fahmi, who chairs the National Day and Malaysia Day 2026 main committee, said the decision was reached during a special meeting with several agencies yesterday to assess the haze situation at the event venue.
“We have decided that if the haze conditions remain as they are this morning and yesterday, we will proceed with the event on Monday (Aug 31),” he told reporters after attending the full rehearsal and meeting parade personnel at Dataran Putrajaya here today.
Despite the decision to proceed, Fahmi said the authorities would continue to monitor air quality and assess whether further measures, including cloud seeding by the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), would be necessary.
He said any cloud-seeding operation would depend on suitable cloud conditions, with NADMA’s assessment to be guided by findings from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
Meanwhile, more than 80,000 visitors are expected at the celebrations, with the school holidays and additional public transport services expected to ease access to the venue.
Fahmi said Prasarana Malaysia Bhd would operate MRT services around the clock, while shuttle buses from MRT stations to the event site and water taxis would also be provided.
The 69th National Day celebrations, themed “Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati”, will take place at Dataran Putrajaya on Monday.
