Haze conditions remained a concern this afternoon, with two areas in Sarawak recording very unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings. Meanwhile, 29 other areas nationwide registered unhealthy air quality as of 4 pm today.
According to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), Sri Aman recorded an API reading of 229. On the other hand, the monitoring station at the Serian district police headquarters recorded 228.
Across the country, Sarikei in Sarawak recorded the highest unhealthy reading at 194, followed by Sungai Petani in Kedah (161), Cheras in Kuala Lumpur (160), Minden in Penang and Taiping in Perak (158 each).
Other areas with unhealthy readings included Shah Alam, Selangor (157), Putrajaya (155), Seremban, Negeri Sembilan (151) and Segamat, Johor (132).
Meanwhile, air quality remained moderate in 36 areas. Pegoh Ipoh in Perak recorded the highest reading in this category at 99, followed by Banting in Selangor (95), Bukit Rambai in Melaka (92), Tangkak in Johor (90), Besut in Terengganu (88), Kota Bharu in Kelantan (87) and Kota Kinabalu in Sabah (86).
Under the API classification, readings of 0 to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy and above 300 hazardous.
The readings are updated hourly based on data from 68 monitoring stations nationwide.
