Bursa Malaysia saw sharp rotations across technology, banking, plantation and consumer stocks during the holiday-shortened week ended Aug 28, with Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd (MPI), Petronas Dagangan Bhd and United Plantations Bhd among the notable movers.
Trading took place over four sessions after the market closed on Aug 25 for the Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday public holiday.
MPI was particularly volatile, emerging as both a major gainer and decliner during the week. The semiconductor-related counter fell RM1.70 to RM41.50 on Aug 24 before rebounding RM1.18 to RM42.68 two days later. It then slipped RM1.26 on Aug 28.
PetDag started the week on a stronger footing, gaining 38 sen to RM20 on Aug 24, while MISC Bhd rose 35 sen to RM8.58. Kelington Group Bhd was another standout, climbing 58 sen to RM8.94 on Aug 26, followed by YTL Power International Bhd with a 53 sen gain.
Banking stocks also featured prominently, with Hong Leong Bank Bhd gaining 88 sen to RM23.88 on Aug 27. Hong Leong Financial Group Bhd and ViTrox Corporation Bhd added 40 sen and 38 sen respectively.
Meanwhile, consumer stocks came under pressure towards the end of the week. Nestlé (M) Bhd fell RM1 on Aug 27 before plunging RM2.90 to RM100.10 in the final session. Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd also declined 40 sen.
United Plantations bucked the weakness on Aug 28, gaining 66 sen to RM31.94, while Spritzer Bhd rose 33 sen to RM3.22.
