A former minister has been remanded for five days to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigation into a hotel lease involving Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) in Saudi Arabia.
The individual, who is in his 60s, was remanded from today until Sunday after Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah allowed the MACC’s application at the Magistrate’s Court in Putrajaya.
The former minister was arrested at about 4.30 pm yesterday after appearing at the MACC to have his statement recorded.
MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed the arrest and said the investigation was being conducted under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
The investigation follows the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on TH, which was made public on July 29.
The report documented various weaknesses in TH’s management and operations between 2014 and 2020, while also identifying problematic investments requiring forensic audits.
It also highlighted suspicious transactions and alleged concealment of information.
The latest investigation concerns a hotel lease issue involving TH in Saudi Arabia.
