Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Management Director Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid has been appointed Deputy Inspector-General of Police, effective Sept 9.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the appointment received the consent of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, on the advice of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and following the recommendation of the Police Force Commission.
The appointment was made in accordance with Clauses 4 and 5 of Article 140 of the Federal Constitution.
“Abdul Aziz’s expertise and experience in policing, coupled with his strong leadership and competence, make him well suited to serve as Deputy Inspector-General of Police.
“The government congratulates him on his appointment,” Saifuddin said in a statement today.
Abdul Aziz, 59, joined PDRM on July 1, 1995 and has served across several departments, including the Management Department, Special Branch, Criminal Investigation Department, Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, Commercial Crime Investigation Department, Logistics and Technology Department, and Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department.
He has held several senior positions throughout his career, including Management Director, Deputy Director of Special Branch, Deputy Director of Narcotics, Penang Police Deputy Chief, Principal Assistant Director of Management Policy and Human Resource, and Principal Assistant Director of the Special Integrated Investigation Team.
Abdul Aziz was born in Penaga, Penang, on Feb 19, 1967 and holds a Master of Social Sciences in Police Studies from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
He has also attended international policing courses and seminars, including the 8th International Symposium of Best Police Practice in Dubai and the Intelligence Management Development Programme in Australia.
