Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd’s wholly owned subsidiary, Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd (BPSB), has been formally appointed as the approved operator of Bintulu Port for a 30-year period, following the port’s transition from federal to Sarawak state control.
The appointment was made by Bintulu Port Authority (Sarawak) with the approval of the Majlis Mesyuarat Kerajaan Negeri and is deemed to have commenced on Sept 1, 2026, expiring on Aug 31, 2056.
The appointment was formalised through the Bintulu Port Authority (Sarawak) (Appointment of Approved Port Operator) Notification 2026, published in the Sarawak Government Gazette on Sept 10.
Under the arrangement, BPSB will continue to operate Bintulu Port subject to the Port Authorities Ordinance 1961 and the terms of the Heads of Agreement dated July 27, 2026 between the Sarawak government, Bintulu Port Authority (Sarawak) and BPSB.
Those terms will remain in force until the parties execute a Port Operation Concession Agreement (POCA), which will then become the governing agreement for BPSB’s operation of the port.
Bintulu Port Holdings said operations will continue under the Sarawak regulatory framework, with no interruption arising from the change in regulatory oversight.
The company said it will make further announcements on material developments, including the eventual execution of the POCA.
