Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session lower on Sept 17, tracking overnight weakness on Wall Street as elevated oil prices, higher US Treasury yields and a US rate hike dampened risk appetite.
At 12.30pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 3.30 points, or 0.2%, to 1,675.91 from its close of 1,679.21 on Sept 15. The index traded between 1,675.42 and 1,684.92 during the morning session.
The broader market was also mostly weaker, with the FBM 70 declined 60.05 points, or 0.34%, to 17,555.60, while the FBM Emas eased 31.95 points, or 0.26%, to 12,411.98. The FBM Shariah fell 46.10 points, or 0.37%, to 12,256.32.
Market breadth was also negative, with 650 decliners outpacing 380 gainers. Another 487 counters were unchanged, 1,339 were untraded and 13 suspended.
Among the biggest losers, Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd fell 26 sen to RM22.86, Hong Leong Industries Bhd lost 24 sen to RM16.82 and Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd dropped 22 sen to RM4.98.
Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Bhd declined 21 sen to RM5.35, while Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd shed 20 sen to RM39.50.
On the upside, Nestlé (M) Bhd led gainers with a 72-sen rise to RM90.90, followed by Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd, which added 50 sen to RM12.88. Heineken Malaysia Bhd climbed 34 sen to RM14.56.
IOI Properties Group Bhd gained 14 sen to RM3.79, while Batu Kawan Bhd advanced 12 sen to RM20.28.
Zetrix AI Bhd topped the most-active list, slipping half a sen to 25 sen on 128.11 million shares.
AirAsia Group Bhd fell 11 sen to 53 sen on 95.82 million shares, while Capital A Bhd lost four sen to 23.5 sen on 88.76 million shares.
Newly ACE Market listed Pioneer Heat Holdings Bhd bucked the weaker tone, rising 7.5 sen to 32.5 sen on 66.82 million shares.
Top Glove Corp Bhd, meanwhile, eased 2.5 sen to 78.5 sen.
Total market turnover stood at 1.98 billion shares valued at RM1.49 billion.
