Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been granted a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his current six-year prison sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to stipulated conditions.
According to a statement by the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department, the decision was made by the Federal Territories Pardons Board at its meeting on Friday, chaired by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
Under the conditional pardon, Najib is required to pay the RM50 million fine imposed under the partial royal pardon granted in 2024. That earlier decision had halved his original 12-year prison sentence and reduced his RM210 million fine to RM50 million.
The statement said Najib must comply with all conditions attached to the house-arrest arrangement.
Should he breach any of the stipulated conditions, the conditional pardon would be revoked and he would be required to immediately return to prison to serve the remainder of the sentence.
The decision follows Friday morning’s 64th meeting of the Federal Territories Pardons Board at Istana Negara. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh and Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar were among those attending. Under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution, the power to grant pardons for offences committed in the Federal Territories rests with the King.
