Malaysia has been elected to serve on the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the 2026 to 2028 term, strengthening its role in shaping international nuclear policy.
The election was held during the 70th Regular Session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna, Austria, from Sept 14 to 18.
The 35-member Board of Governors is one of the IAEA’s principal policy-making bodies and oversees the Agency’s operations, approves safeguards agreements and helps shape policies on the safe, secure and peaceful use of atomic science and technology.
Malaysia has been an IAEA member since 1969 and has previously served 10 terms on the Board of Governors, most recently from 2020 to 2022.
The latest election reflects Malaysia’s continued participation in the Agency’s work, particularly in supporting nuclear non-proliferation and the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
Malaysia said it looks forward to working with fellow IAEA member states and the Agency to advance non-proliferation objectives and promote the safe, secure and peaceful use of nuclear energy.
