Fourteen areas nationwide recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as at 9am today, with Sarawak accounting for 10 of the affected areas, according to the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).
Sibu recorded the highest reading at 178, followed by Sri Aman at 169 and Mukah at 168. Other affected areas in Sarawak were Serian at 160, Kuching at 157, Samalaju, Bintulu, Kapit and Sarikei at 156 each, and Samarahan at 155.
Outside Sarawak, Putrajaya recorded an API reading of 151, while Shah Alam in Selangor recorded 109, Nilai in Negeri Sembilan 108 and the monitoring station at Politeknik Kota Kinabalu in Sabah 103.
Meanwhile, 51 areas recorded moderate air quality while three areas registered good readings.
The API categorises readings from zero to 50 as good, 51 to 100 as moderate, 101 to 200 as unhealthy, 201 to 300 as very unhealthy and readings above 300 as hazardous.
