Banking Heavyweights Drag FBM KLCI Lower At Midday

Bursa Malaysia remained in negative territory at midday on Sept 29, with selling in selected heavyweights, particularly banking stocks, weighing on the benchmark index amid a softer overnight performance on Wall Street.

At 12.30pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 13.67 points or 0.82% to 1,656.35 from Sept 28’s close of 1,670.02. The index had moved between 1,653.63 and 1,665.32 during the morning session.

The broader market was also mostly lower, with the FBM 70 slipping 72.30 points or 0.41% to 17,615.47, while the F4GBM declined 7.52 points or 0.75% to 999.74.

The FBM Emas dropped 84.42 points or 0.68% to 12,330.37, while the FBM Shariah shed 55.22 points or 0.45% to 12,187.10.

Banking counters were among the main drags, with CIMB losing 18 sen to RM7.81, Maybank down eight sen at RM10.08 and Public Bank slipping four sen to RM4.75. RHB Bank fell 16 sen to RM7.68, while AMMB eased five sen to RM6.55.

Market breadth remained negative, with 646 decliners versus 312 gainers. Another 459 counters were unchanged, 1,474 were untraded and 143 were suspended.

Among the top losers, Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd fell RM1.50 to RM40.70, followed by Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd which dropped 74 sen to RM21.48. United Plantations Bhd declined 28 sen to RM31.32, Heineken Malaysia Bhd lost 22 sen to RM13.34 and Allianz Malaysia Bhd slipped 18 sen to RM20.92.

On the upside, Solarvest Holdings Bhd topped the gainers, rising 28 sen to RM4.44. Ranhill Utilities Bhd advanced 15 sen to RM3.34, while Southern Cable Group Bhd gained 14 sen to RM2.90. KLCCP Stapled Group added 13 sen to RM8.48 and Petronas Dagangan Bhd climbed 12 sen to RM19.44.

Among the most actively traded counters, Zetrix AI Bhd fell 2.5 sen to 16.5 sen on about 274.46 million shares traded. JAKS Resources Bhd gained half a sen to 19 sen with 65.29 million shares changing hands, while Ni Hsin Group Bhd slipped half a sen to 38.5 sen on 19.88 million shares.

MAG Holdings Bhd was unchanged at 15.5 sen with 14.72 million shares traded, while JCY International Bhd rose 2.5 sen to 58 sen on 14.1 million shares.

Turnover stood at 1.83 billion shares worth RM1.18 billion.
