Malaysia Airlines and China Southern Airlines will add five new codeshare routes between Malaysia and China from Oct 25, expanding travel options to Shenzhen, Changsha, Xiamen, Chengdu and Zhengzhou.
The expansion will bring all Kuala Lumpur-related routes operated by both carriers between Malaysia and China under their codeshare arrangement.
Under the arrangement, both airlines will place their respective flight codes on eligible services operated by either carrier, allowing passengers to access a wider network and smoother connections.
The partnership began with the Kuala Lumpur-Guangzhou route in July 2023 before expanding in July 2024 to Kuala Lumpur-Beijing Daxing, Kuala Lumpur-Shanghai Pudong and Guangzhou-Penang.
Malaysia Airlines has also launched new services from Kuala Lumpur to Chengdu, Shenzhen and Changsha this year, while China Southern has increased capacity on its Kuala Lumpur-Guangzhou and Kuala Lumpur-Shenzhen routes.
Malaysia Aviation Group President and Group Chief Executive Officer Captain Nasaruddin A Bakar said China remains a key strategic market for Malaysia Airlines, with the expanded cooperation supporting stronger tourism, trade and business links between the two countries.
China Southern Air Holding Company president Han Wensheng said the partnership would also support higher flight frequencies and capitalise on mutual visa-free travel arrangements between Malaysia and China.
