Good news for Malaysians looking to travel, our passport is now ranked second globally in The Passport Index Global Ranking 2026, rising from third last year.
The Immigration Department said in a social media post that this achievement reflects the strength and international acceptance of the Malaysian passport.
“Based on the ranking, Malaysian passport holders have access to 175 destinations, comprising 129 visa-free destinations and 46 destinations with visa-on-arrival, while 23 destinations require a visa,” according to the post.
According to data from passport index, United Arab Emirates (UAE) retains the number one spot, where UAE passport holders have access to 182 destinations, comprising 138 visa-free destinations, 44 with visa-on-arrival, and 16 with visa. Malaysia and Singapore tie for number two, as Singapore passport holders have 140 visa-free destinations, 11 more than Malaysia.
Spain is number three, and fifteen countries hold the number four spot: Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Netherlands, Finland, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Portugal, Austria, Norway, Republic of Ireland, and Japan.
