The stock market movement ended with weak market breadth as decliners outnumbered gainers 688 to 412, with Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd (MPI) and Nestlé (M) Bhd among the biggest losers.
MPI fell RM1.40 or 3.3% to RM40.80, while Nestlé shed RM1.04 or 1.2% to RM89. Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd declined 42 sen or 1.9% to RM21.80, followed by Heineken Malaysia Bhd, which lost 32 sen or 2.4% to RM13.24.
RHB Bank Bhd was also among the top decliners, falling 30 sen or 3.8% to RM7.54.
Despite the broader weakness, selected counters posted strong gains. Solarvest Holdings tBhd opped the gainers after jumping 33 sen or 7.9% to RM4.49, while Samaiden Group surged 28 sen or 9.7% to RM3.18.
Southern Cable Group Bhd advanced 21 sen or 7.6% to RM2.97, KLCCP Stapled Group Bhd gained 18 sen or 2.2% to RM8.53, while Ranhill Utilities Bhd rose 15 sen or 4.7% to RM3.34.
Elsewhere, 548 counters were unchanged, while 1,243 were untraded and 143 suspended.
Trading activity strengthened, with turnover rising to 3.31 billion units worth RM2.95 billion from 3.11 billion units valued at RM2.40 billion on Sept 28.
