South Korean stocks opened lower on Friday despite modest overnight gains on Wall Street, with the Kospi falling 33.08 points or 0.47% to 6,938.27.
The benchmark index started the session at 6,938.27, while the Kosdaq also slipped 1.07 points or 0.12% to 893.22.
Wall Street had ended slightly higher overnight as US Treasury yields eased from fresh multi-decade highs, although gains were limited by rising crude oil prices.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 0.04%, while the S&P 500 gained 0.19%. The Nasdaq Composite added 0.04%.
The weaker opening in Seoul came after the Kospi ended Thursday’s session 133.31 points or nearly 2% higher, snapping a three-day losing streak as easing US inflation concerns reduced expectations for further interest rate hikes.
