Aaron Chen Brings Technology To Kuala Lumpur

There are comedians who have something important to say about the state of the world. And then there is Aaron Chen, who has apparently decided that the most appropriate response to living through an age of AI, algorithms, smartphones and increasingly intelligent machines is to make a stand-up show about Technology.

At least two minutes of it, he reckons.

The award-winning Australian comedian, actor and writer brings his new stand-up show titledn Technology to Kuala Lumpur for the first time on 20 October 2026, giving Malaysian audiences their first live encounter with one of Australia’s most distinctive deadpan comedy
voices. It is, in its own peculiar way, a perfectly logical proposition. We live in a world where our phones know where we are, algorithms know what we want before we do, AI is writing increasingly convincing emails and nobody can explain why the printer has stopped working. Someone should probably talk about it. Chen does.

For audiences who have somehow encountered Aaron Chen without knowing his name — you’ve probably already seen him. You may have watched Fisk or The Dink. You may have caught his Netflix special Funny Garden. You may have come across his peculiar brand of deadpan humour online and wondered why something completely ordinary suddenly became very, very funny. Now you know. It’s Aaron Chen.

Chen’s comedy is built around deadpan delivery, surreal observation and a quietly escalating absurdity that has become unmistakably his own. His latest show, Technology, does exactly what its title promises: it is about technology. Whether it is actually about technology for the full duration remains, like most things on the internet, subject to verification.

The credentials, however, are entirely real. Chen is a Logie Award winner and has earned major recognition at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, including Best Newcomer in 2017, Director’s Choice in 2019, a Best Show nomination in 2021 and the 2024 MICF People’s Choice Award for highest ticket sales. His screen credits include Fisk, Guy Montgomery’s Spelling Bee and The Dink, while his Netflix special Funny Garden has introduced his distinctive comic sensibility to an international audience.

His previous special If It Weren’t Filmed, Nobody Would Believe has accumulated close to two million YouTube views, while his Adult Swim special A Life in Questions earned an AACTA nomination for Best Short Form Comedy Special.

Perhaps because technology has stopped being a gadget and become the backdrop to modern life. We work through screens. We socialise through platforms. We outsource memory to our phones. We ask algorithms what to watch, what to buy and occasionally what to think. Comedy has always been one of the ways we process cultural change. Chen’s Technology arrives at an interesting moment: when the machines are becoming increasingly sophisticated, while humans remain gloriously, confusingly human. And that may be the joke. Or it may not. You will have to attend to find out.

Rizal Kamal, CEO, LOL ASIA, shares, “We’ve reached the point where AI can write our presentations, generate our images and occasionally make us question whether we’re still needed in the room. So, bringing Aaron Chen to Kuala Lumpur with a show called Technology
feels very timely. I’m particularly interested in what happens when one of Australia’s sharpest deadpan comedians turns his attention to the machines we’ve invited into our lives. Hopefully, technology can take a joke.”
