Elridge To Invest RM45 Million On Maiden Activated Carbon Business

Elridge Energy Holdings Bhd is investing RM45 million to establish six integrated activated carbon production chains in Klang, Selangor, marking the group’s entry into a higher value-added segment of the palm kernel shell industry.

The investment will be undertaken through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Lumeria Power Sdn Bhd, and represents an extension of Elridge Energy’s existing palm kernel shell business.

The group currently supplies palm kernel shells primarily as biomass fuel, but the new facility will allow it to process the same feedstock into activated carbon for applications including water treatment, air and gas purification, industrial filtration and other industrial uses.

Upon completion of both phases in the second half of FY2027, the Klang facility is expected to have a total designed production capacity of 21,600 metric tonnes of activated carbon per year.

The project will be developed in two phases.

The first phase will comprise three production chains with a combined designed capacity of 10,800 tonnes annually, with commercial production targeted to begin in the first half of FY2027.

A further three production chains are expected to commence operations in the second half of FY2027, doubling the facility’s total designed capacity to 21,600 tonnes per year.

Elridge Energy said production would ramp up progressively after commercial operations begin, subject to the group obtaining the necessary licences, permits and regulatory approvals.
